JADCO CONCLUDES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SERIES OF JUNIOR ATHLETES ANTI-DOPING EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) now has four newly trained Doping Control Officers (DCOs). This brings the total number of DCOs to eight as the Commission continues its drive to build capacity and strengthen operations. Training of the new DCOs was facilitated through a partnership involving JADCO and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES).

The training programme was completed on July 18, with a written evaluation session, following intense theoretical, practical and in-field training, which included participation in both in-competition and out-of-competition testing missions. The training focused on the roles and responsibilities of DCOs, athlete notification, best practices for urine and blood sample collection and partial sample collection.

The Doping Control Officers are now fully certified to carry out doping control missions on JADCO’s behalf for a period of two years, after which they will need to be re-evaluated and recertified.

The Commission has also secured funding from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), which will be used to train more sample collection personnel.  In addition to DCOs and Chaperones, Blood Collection Officers (BCOs) will also be included in the programme, as JADCO moves to add blood collection to its doping control procedures before the end of the 2014/2015 fiscal year.
